About the Peace Awards

The 1st Music Video Peace Awards of the Mindanao PeaceWeavers (MPW) is simultaneously held in Visayas and Mindanao. It is dubbed as “SALI KAMI! Sa Peace Talks” in Mindanao, “APIL MI! and UPOD ‘TA!” in the Visayas islands.

This an annual peace campaign to energize peace advocates and empower ordinary citizens in Mindanao and Visayas to stand for peace.

By introducing a fresh advocacy strategy with an innovative twist, this Music Video Peace Awards provides a creative advocacy platform in promoting active citizenship and engaging the peace process.

This is an innovative space towards constituency-building and mobilizing local support for peace by
encouraging ordinary citizens to use creative expressions in building solidarity and inspiring change.

Organized by MPW, the 1st Music Video Peace Awards is a built-in component of Duyog Mindanao – an over-arching peace campaign of MPW punctuated by the “PEACEtivals” and the Mindanao Week of Peace (MWOP) advocacy celebration.

This is co-organized by the Bisayang Dako Alang sa Kalinaw (BISDAK), MPW Co-convenor for the Visayas areas, and other MPW convenors for the rest of Mindanao.

MPW believes that a groundswell in the exercise of citizenship especially on peace issues can only be possible if the process is inclusive, creative and sustainable. Music Video constitutes a strong mass appeal and popularity as a communication medium. In this premise, MPW is tapping this as an advocacy channel to gain broader support and reach the household level on matters of peace.
